The Web of Death is a classic Shaw Brothers martial arts movie from 1976 directed by Chor Yuen with supernatural elements and a deadly spider.

The story for “The Web of Death” felt loosely constructed, with scenes seemingly pieced together without a clear sense of cohesion. However, amidst the chaotic narrative, one notable element stood out—the costumes and art direction.

Lo Lieh is the villain of the story who is searching for a way to uncover the secret of the Five Venoms Clan. As the story progressed, he finds and utilizes a small spider confined in a container to shoot deadly venom, instantly killing its victims.

Amidst the intrigue and mystery, the film introduced us to Fei Ying Xiang, portrayed by Yueh Hua, and Hong Susu, played by Li Ching. Their relationship defied the expectations and norms of the martial arts clan leaders around them, triggering both jealousy and animosity, including from a fellow female clan member.

Ku Feng, in a small but memorable role, portrayed one of the clan leaders who played a significant part in the climactic finale. The film showcased impressive costume designs and art direction, with scenes depicting the characters’ efforts to penetrate the secret lair reminiscent of the thrilling adventures seen in the “Indiana Jones” series.
