Activision tossed splendid media events this year for games like Call of Duty: World At War, Spider-Man: Web Of Shadows and Guitar Hero: World Tour. So it was only natural to assume that the midnight launch of their latest flagship title Quantum of Solace would make for a fun event. Unfortunately there wasn’t much to scream and shout about. A crowd of about 200 people loosely gathered at the Best Buy in West Hollywood to demo the game on PlayStation 3 systems, win prizes and play Guitar Hero: World Tour. There were photo opportunities with some fancy dressed ladies and a cool hip car.
We managed to sample the brand new James Bond theme song from Jack White & Alicia Keys, titled Another Way To Die (from the upcoming film), on Guitar Hero: World Tour. The song will be released as a download this week but was bland to play and obviously not a good fit for this type of game. A better cross promotion fit would have been for the upcoming game Microsoft game Lips.
People from the radio station, Power 106, were on hand to MC the drawings and hand out prizes but missed the memo on dressing like characters in a James Bond film. The so-called ‘event’ was not much more then a glorified showing of the game and we can only hope that the next midnight launch brings more excitement.
nice one!
it will be easy to make spoofs based on Quantum of Solace… so much breaking glass plus he can’t get a gallon of milk from the store without it turning into a chase scene
