Despite labeling recent reports of a new DS “speculation,” Nintendo has indeed announced a new version of its hugely successful handheld. At a conference in Tokyo, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata unveiled the new Nintendo DSi, which features not one but two 640×480 cameras, MP3 support, larger screens, and more.

Just picked up a Silver DS, but even if I hadn’t, I wouldn’t wait around for this. I love my GBA slot. Classic Super Mario and Castlevania, not to mention all the other GBA Mario and Castlevania ports and a bunch of other really good games. Losing the GBA slot for a 640×480 camera is worthless. Cell phone cameras today shoot in the megapixels, so what gives? Nintendo cheaping out on us?
