J-Stars Victory VS+ is out now for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita (Digital Only) and features a variety of characters from some of the most popular anime shows like Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, Bleach and One Piece.

J-Stars Victory VS+ is mostly a button masher fighting game with the occasional adventuring to be had.  The fights are generally 3 vs 3 where you control a main character and have two supporting characters with one assist character adding to your attacks.  The fighting arenas are fast paced but the way the camera follows the action it’s hard to keep track of who’s winning or losing.

The game has different ways to play like the typical ‘arcade mode’ on which you can setup a match between characters and duke it out for bragging rights or you can play in story mode where you encounter different characters that mostly join your party after you defeat them.  The biggest downside of the story mode is all the heavy dialogue which is basically reading text on the screen – it always makes us wonder why cartoon and animation games have static cut scenes?

J-Stars Victory VS+ has a certain level of charm – being able to play some of your favorite anime characters in a super mashup video game is a huge plus.  On the downside – the bulk of J-Stars Victory VS+ combat is button mashing and it’s difficult to keep up when the camera angle changes to frequently.  We’ve provided some sample gameplay – hope you enjoy!
