Invasion U.S.A. (1985) starring Chuck Norris is available now on Blu-ray courtesy of Shout Factory with all new special features. Invasion U.S.A. is mostly loved by 1980s action movie fans and is one of the more prominent Chuck Norris films of his prime. The story is about terrorists attacking Americans on U.S. soil led by Soviet agent Rostov played by Richard Lynch who made a career out of playing villains in cinema.
Shout Factory has done an excellent job of carrying over special features and adding new ones to this package. The Blu-ray front showcases Chuck Norris in his iconic two uzi pose while the back includes a synopsis of the movie and inside case an action still of Chuck Norris from Invasion U.S.A.
For the new bonus features the one that stands out the most is the new commentary by Director Joseph Zito who adds a wealth of behind the scenes information and insight on how the script transformed itself into the movie it eventually became and also how Chuck Norris helped originate the idea behind the story. Also interesting to see and hear is the visual effects crew talking about how they had just come off of filming ‘Day of the Dead’ to join the production of Invasion U.S.A. and the hiccups they faced along the way.
Invasion U.S.A. as a film needs to be met and appreciated with the 1980s action charm that also includes the likes of Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger movies of that era complete with self-reloading missile launchers and bad one-liner dialogue. Invasion U.S.A. lacks in martial arts as Chuck Norris mostly uses guns in the movie and it isn’t as good as some of his others like Code of Silence or The Octagon but the special features will appeal to the Norris fan completist.
