Nintendo and Sony had their big press conferences today.  Nintendo announced Mario and Metroid games for the Wii (yawn) and Sony impressed with an awesome display of some of their fine upcoming releases like God of War 3 and even talked about a new motion sensor thing.  I guess 2009 will be known as the year of the motion sensor.  Anyway onto the fun stuff which is the E3 Expo show floor!

Hailey and I spent a good amount of the day around with the crowds at the G4tv booth where Steve Wiebe was attempting to reclaim his Donkey Kong world recorded on a live nationally televised feed.  Steve was perched on a stool in front of an authentic Donkey Kong arcade machine and a constant stream of fans and on-lookers cheering him on.  Twin Galaxies founder Walter Day was also present along with others in the arcade/world champion holders group.  Steve was given three attempts (which each take over 2 hours to complete) to go for a new world record yet each came up short meaning that Billy Mitchell remains the Donkey Kong world record holder.  Steve did make it to the ‘kill screen’ which in itself is a treat to watch.

We spent all of our time in the ‘South Hall’ and ran into some of the guys from the Ultimate Gamer Champion show (sci-fi network) who were all super nice and friendly.  The show floor was not as insanely crowded as expected and many game stations were open for demos.  Swag and booth babes were still at an all-time low but there was plenty of other cool things to check out!

Once E3 wrapped – Hailey, The DCD and myself headed off to the after parties which started with the GirlGamer.com party at the Congo Room where our friends 8-Bit Weapon performed and then ended at Saddleranch where Bethesda held their annual party.  We ran into many new friends and fans of the show – look forward to tomorrow when we take the video camera with us!
