Once again EA held their proceedings in an off-site location outside of the Los Angeles Convention Center where the E3 Expo 2017 is being held. Almost all of the EA video games showcased during their press conference were titles we knew about with only a couple of surprise reveals. Overall the EA Press Conference E3 Expo 2017 didn’t wow enough and most of the time you can sense the tension of the crowd waiting for the big Star Wars Battlefront II reveal.
Madden 18 Longshot was showcased and this time comes with a story mode. You can play as Devin who is played by actor and former NFL prospect J.R. Lemon. Devin’s father is played by Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) as Cutter Wade. As always Madden 18 looks like the most polished NFL video game experience.
Battlefield 1 will be getting a huge expansion called ‘In The Name of Tsar‘ later this year which will feature 6 new maps, including night maps, the Russian Army and more. EA stressed the importance of competition and listening to their players during their presentation.
The FIFA 18 trailer focused on professional athlete Cristiano Ronaldo and his involvement with the video game. No mention of FIFA on the Nintendo Switch during this presentation.
Need For Speed Payback, which was announced last week, showcased car customization and a polished racing experience. Most people are considering Need For Speed Payback the un-official video game adaptation of The Fast and the Furious movie franchise.
A new project called ‘A Way Out‘ was revealed from the developers of the Brothers A Tale of Two Sons video game. A Way Out has an interesting gimmick in that you can only play the game co-op either locally or online. You can play as either Vince or Leo in an attempt to escape prison and survive ‘on the lamb’. A Way Out is expected to release early in 2018.
‘Anthem‘ is a new IP coming from BioWare and what we were shown was a brief teaser with a female voice-over and what looked like a post-apocalyptic world in the future. EA promises more to be shown during the Microsoft Press Conference.
NBA Live 18 got a short demo which showed a developer moving Lebron James around in slow motion to avoid defenders and then scoring on them. NBA Live 18 will introduce ‘The One’ which is a story mode similar to the one found in the NBA 2K video games – here’s hoping the cut scenes are an improvement. If NBA Live 18 has character customization it wasn’t showcased as part of this demo but courts both indoor and outdoor were shown and a ranking system for the character.
The EA Press Conference E3 Expo 2017 ended with a long presentation of Star Wars Battlefront II which was led by the actress in the video game Janina Gavankar who plays Commander Iden Versio. Janina talked about the game as being bigger and better with an emphasis on free DLC maps and characters. Star Wars Battlefront II looks just as polished and refined as the first game and this time around will have a single-player experience. During the EA Play presentation, John Boyega spoke in a pre-recorded message and announced that both Finn and Captain Phasma would be coming later this year as DLC characters. A multiplayer map called ‘Assault on Theed’ was shown as part of the live demonstration which included aerial and ‘boots on the ground’ combat.
