DOOM from Bethesda Softworks drops May 13, 2016 on Windows PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.  We had a chance to check out the DOOM Multiplayer Closed Beta (on PS4) which includes two maps (Heatwave and Infernal) and two modes (Team Deathmatch and Warpath).

So far we’ve seen fast paced combat and smooth online multiplayer action in DOOM that feels very much like a love-child between classic Quake and Halo.  The two maps are large with tons of corridors and places to gain vantage points with blood dripping from the ceiling and molten lava on the ground.  DOOM looks like a DOOM game but we’re going to have to get our hands on the single-player campaign before deciding on if it ‘feels’ like a DOOM game.

Some things about the DOOM MP Beta that seem odd — no HUD so lots of sneaking up on people and difficult to use tactics.  Weapons don’t seem to have enough power to them – especially the double-barrel shotgun which should be a one-shot kill.  You have the ability to morph into a demon which is fun to play but completely OP when trying to defend.

Hope to follow up with more gameplay and impressions once the full game comes to retail next month!
