Eidos’ Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary will be available on GameTap on June 5, the same day and date as retail. The simultaneous release with retail is a first for GameTap, which has made a name for itself with a catalog comprised of mostly older titles.
Tomb Raider: Anniversary is a Crystal Dynamics-developed remake of the original Tomb Raider game.
The game will be available to paying subscribers of the GameTap service.
The company also announced today that it would have limited free game offerings.
In a recent Next-Gen interview with GameTap senior VP and general manager Stu Snyder, he said that narrowing the gap between retail and GameTap game releases is a significant part of the company’s strategy going forward.
“There is an audience out there that wants their games in this distribution method so we are working with publishers to get games day and date, and if not day and date then we’re working with them to get titles months from retail release, not years,” he said.
