The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim Special Edition is a remastered version of the original game with better visuals on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.  We already praised Skyrim as one of the best games of the year in 2011 when it was first released but years later it is clear that Bethesda Softworks led by Todd Howard have put together one of the finest video games ever made.  In many ways Skyrim is the perfect ‘desert island disc’ as with this game you can endure hours upon hours of enticing gameplay, talk to thousands of people and explore numerous dungeons.  Skyrim has become such an integral part of the gaming lexicon that even Nintendo wants a piece of the action for their upcoming Switch console arriving in 2017.

The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim Special Edition plays and feels mostly the same as the original but what has been enhanced greatly is the scenery and the way some things behave in the wild like how water now moves naturally along the shores.  Vistas, mountains, trees, snow, roads and more will all strike your eyes as shockingly refreshed and pretty to look at – especially if the first time you saw this game was on an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 (as opposed to PC).  The migration to current generation consoles wasn’t 100% upgraded as character models only got slight enhancements making them look a bit ‘muddy’ and out of place especially in contrast to the improved landscapes.
