For those who didn’t know STRIDER was a side-scrolling arcade game from way back in 1989 developed by Capcom.  The gameplay was fast and intense and like arcade games of that era — meant to take as many quarters as it could snatch from you one right after the other.  Strider had a sequel and the original was ported over to many systems but probably is more popular as a character in the more recent Marvel Vs Capcom series.

Capcom brought Strider back in 2014 – revamped and re-imagined for the current generation of gamers.  Most of the gameplay remains the same like sides-scrolling action, Hiryu‘s trusty melee weapon and the ability to slide under enemies or climb above them.  The original game was fast-paced for its time but the 2014 of Strider is insanely fast paced.  Enemies will now shoot an array of weapons at you which are impossible to evade.  Where the original game used a bit more strategy for out-maneuvering foes — the new Strider mostly resides on luck, reaction time and collecting health orbs.

As a franchise reboot we enjoyed the new Strider immensely — it has just enough of the original flair mixed with rapid current generation of twitch gaming charm and comes at a small price tag at only $14.99 (PSN/XBLA/Steam).  If we had complaints about the game it was only on a lack of audio polish as some sound effects seemed ‘missing’ but overall you will button-mash your way to a fun weekend of gaming with this purchase!
