Demons and samurai are the ingredients used to make the latest installment of Shin Megami Tensei. The story takes place in Mikado, a society in which samurai hold extreme prestige. In fact if a lower class citizen is chosen to become one, they immediately become richer and more powerful. The main character gets chosen fairly early in the game, which sets the entire adventure into motion.
The story mode boasts 40 hours of gameplay without side quests. There’s also a demon collecting component, like a mature version of Pokemon. It’ll be easy to finish this on the go as you’ll be able to save at any time, which is a much needed feature for any portable game. The touch screen is utilized for what you’d expect as both a map and a way to navigate menus.
Shin Megani Tensei IV seems to take cues from both the main series and Persona, with the dungeon crawling from the latter and battles from the former. It’s a combination that plays really well. SMT4 comes out next month, so at least we won’t have to wait too long to get our hands on it.
