‘Shaolin Prince‘ is a 1982 martial arts kung fu movie from Shaw Brothers directed by Tang Chia and stars Ti Lung and Derek Yee. ‘Shaolin Prince’ was recently released on Blu-ray by Shout Factory as part of their Shaw Brothers Classic Collection Volume 4.
The story is about two brothers who are split up as babies. One grows up with three really weird but cool Shaolin monks, while the other is raised by scholarly Prime Minister. At first, they’re doing their own things, but then their paths cross and they team up to fight the bad guy!
There’s lots of amazing training scenes, mystery, good guys, bad guys, and exciting fights. The only thing missing is a scene where the two brothers devise a plan to defeat the villain’s special ‘iron fingers’ kung fu technique, which was a big deal in old martial arts movies.
Some of the special effects might look a bit silly now because they’re from a long time ago, but that’s part of what makes it fun to watch! If you like action-packed movies with a touch of magic, you’ll love this film!
