We had a chance to check out Shadow of the Colossus Remastered for the PlayStation 4 during our time at Sony’s PlayStation Experience 2017. Shadow of the Colossus was originally released for the PlayStation 2 in 2005 and is considered by many as one of the ‘greatest games of all time‘ and in many ways, you can easily see how charming the experience can be within just a few minutes of gameplay. The new graphics look rather stunning – all things considered and makes this game look about as modern as possible.
We had a chance to ride on the horse Agro through some open countryside and take on one of the enormous giants inhabiting the Shadow Of Colossus landscape. When Shadow of the Colossus was originally released it was known to have some ‘janky’ gameplay mechanics and some have carried over into the new version. We specifically had a trying time getting down the timing to jump with the X button then hold the R2 to grab onto a ledge or the back of one of the beasts. In the modern era of gaming the X button would simply be used to both jump with a tap and grab with by holding the button but I guess this port is meant to be faithful to the original video game mechanics.
Shadow of the Colossus Preview Final Thoughts:
Our time was short with Shadow of the Colossus at PlayStation Experience 2017 but we could tell that this newly made version for the PlayStation 4 will have enough charm to satisfy new players coming to the game and potentially give experience players another chance to take down the giant beasts of the forbidden land.
