It’s been a big year for fans of the Ratchet and Clank series – two weeks ago we were treated to an excellent remastered version of the original PS2 video game on the PS4 gaming system and this week the Ratchet and Clank movie premiered. The new Ratchet and Clank video game has been a surprise treat and a tribute to classic platforming gameplay. The Ratchet and Clank movie is based on the video game with scenes from the movie appearing in the video game.
The animation for the Ratchet and Clank movie is similar to the video game and the story feels like something lifted from game to screen. The movie is a fun treat however it doesn’t do anything to stand out other then bring the name recognition into movie theaters and upcoming DVD/Blu-ray players. Time will tell if the video game helps sell movie tickets or if the movie helps sell the video game but either way we’re glad to see both Ratchet and Clank goodness all around!
Ratchet and Clank features a stellar cast of actors like Paul Giamatti, John Goodman, Bella Thorne, Rosario Dawson, Armin Shimerman, and Sylvester Stallone. It also features the original video game voice actors reprising their roles Jim Ward (as Captain Quark), James Arnold Taylor (as Ratchet) and David Kaye (as Clank). The movie is directed by Kevin Munroe and is very youth friendly although some parts of the movie may be difficult to follow for young viewers as ideas like betrayal and references to social media are filtered throughout.
