The Sony PlayStation Experience 2016 keynote presentation was held earlier today in Anaheim California and was broadcast live online to thousands of viewers. PSX is a chance for Sony to give a ‘last hurrah’ to games like The Last Guardian which releases in December 2016 and gain momentum on their PlayStation VR games and newly released PlayStation 4 Slim and PlayStation 4 Pro systems.
Much of the Sony PlayStation Experience 2016 was a recap of previously announced games wrapped around new trailers and features but there were a handful of reveals and announcements which will help carry the PS4 brand into 2017 and beyond.
PlayStation Experience 2016 New Game Reveals:
Uncharted The Lost Legacy is the newest installment in the series that was presumed to be finished but will carry on with female protagonists Chloe Frazer (Uncharted 2) and Nadine Ross (Uncharted 4). Naughty Dog will once again be developing the PlayStation exclusive and thus far no word on if Nathan Drake will make an appearance in the game.
The Last Of Us Part II was revealed during the PlayStation Experience 2016 presentation as part of the finale which will bring a return to grace from lead characters Joel and Ellie. Years have passed since the first game as Ellie is grown up now and seeking revenge and the title of ‘Part II’ implies that this game series will continue onto a Part III at some point. The Last Of Us Part II is being developed by Naughty Dog – we don’t expect the game to launch for a few years as Shawn Layden (Sony Interactive Entertainment) mentioned the game was in early development.
Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite was announced/confirmed with a fancy cinematic trailer. A fake Marvel Vs Capcom 4 graphic had been circulating the Internet this past week leading to much speculation but it appears that the franchise will see a reboot and fresh start – dropping the number system entirely. The reveal trailer featured two Capcom fighters Ryu (Street Fighter) and Mega Man versus two Marvel fighters Iron Man and Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers). Word on the street is that Marvel will only be licensing characters they own into the game from the Marvel Cinematic Universe but we’ll know more as things develop.
The Knack 2 was announced during PSX and appears to now feature co-op gameplay. The Knack was a launch title for the PlayStation 4 in 2013 and will attempt to gain some traction with the follow up game now that the PS4 is in full-swing.
Nex Machina Death Machine was revealed as a new video game from developer Eugene Jarvis who was instrumental in creating some of the best 1980s arcade games like Defender and Robotron. Nex Machinia looks like a stylized top down twin stick shooter – something Jarvis has been perfecting since creating Smash TV in the 1990s.
Absolver was announced as an Online Melee combat action game for 2017 and looks to have stylized graphics and sound effects. Not much else was revealed about Absolver outside of the fact that it’ll be coming first to the PlayStation 4 with exclusive content in 2017.
