The mobile gaming industry is one that has experienced tremendous growth over the last few years and, thanks to the greater flexibility and ease of access that it offers, it is more popular than console gaming. This promises to be another year of great mobile games, and to mark it we will look at some of the best ones from the last two decades.
#1: Mr Jump
This is a free iOS-only game and is simple, but pretty much defines the word ‘addictive’. Mr Jump is an avatar with the square head and you have to make him jump forward through the strange landscape of the game, avoiding various obstacles and precipices in awkward places.
#2: Two Dots
This is a puzzle game with the ability of doing crossword making available free for both Android and iOS and is basically a mobile version of join the dots. There are two dots that move across different landscapes, and there are a variety of difficulty
#3: Lastronaut
This free game for iOS became a huge hit, thanks to the excellent 8-bit graphics depicting its scenario of the last man alive in an apocalyptic world. It is so irresistible that around a million people had downloaded it within the first week of its arrival in the App Store.
#4: Snake
This Android game, where you have to move a line around as it grows in length, without it touching any of the obstacles, the border, or itself, has been popular for years and has spawned numerous sequels – including Snake 2, Snake Xenzia and Snake EX.
#5: Angry Birds
This iOS game has achieved legendary status and, when Android got it as well, there were more than two million downloads inside a week. It is a puzzle game where you launch birds at pigs using a slingshot, with the aim being to get rid of all the pigs.
#6: Candy Crush Saga
This is a mostly free puzzle game for both Android and iOS platforms, although in-app purchases can be required to keep going. It involves matching rows of candies to form ‘special’, ‘wrapped’ or ‘colour bomb’ candies – scoring points and moving up levels by doing so.
#7: Heist
Heist is an old-fashioned Nintendo Game and Watch game for Android mobiles and its retro visuals see you play a bank robber trying to dodge pitfalls like falling objects while getting your stolen loot stashed inside a balloon.
#8: Soccer Safari
This online casino slot, which is available at sites like CasinoOnline.co.nz, can also be played on both Android and iOS phones and centres on a World Cup for animals. The graphics of warthogs, buffalo etc. charging around a football field are funny, while it also gives you a really good shot at winning some money, by getting a matching line of animals on the five reels.
#9: Metal Slug Attack
This is a free game for iOS and is an action one where you have to take out the fortress of enemy with your troops – rescuing weapons, prisoners etc. as you do so.
#10: Kendall and Kylie
Another free iPhone game, this one involves playing a fictional social media queen – or king.
These are all great mobile games to play, but may even be topped by some of the ones to come this year like a best friend tag quiz and more.
