Disney’s Million Dollar Arm is a movie starring Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Lake Bell (In a World), Suraj Sharma (Life of Pi) and Madhur Mittal (Slumdog Millionaire). Jon Hamm plays ‘JB‘ a down-on-his-luck sports agent who previously had high profiled clients but is now currently in a slump. Million Dollar Arm is based on a true-story and seems ‘true to life’ as we can imagine — it tells the story of how JB masterminds a contest to find and bring over two athletes from India and turn them into Baseball pitching sensations.
We know what you’re saying — this all sounds crazy! As it turns out the plot happened and without giving any spoilers away know that most of the story was taken from true circumstances. Jon Hamm as JB does an excellent job as the ‘fish out of water’ sports agent who is more comfortable in his fancy car and nice house then spending time in India. The same goes for Surai and Sharma who must quickly adjust to life in Los Angeles after being imported into the country to learn how to play baseball.
Overall Million Dollar Arm has enough charm and life to it to breath some ‘feel good’ entertainment into your own existence. Alan Arkin has some typical ‘scene stealing’ moments in the film and watching Jon Hamm ‘on the big screen’ was a delight. For those not all that familiar with Baseball or Cricket – you’ll come away a bit more enlightened on both subjects.
