Medal of Honor from EA/DICE is set to release in Oct, 2010 — this is an early look at the game and impressions of the beta.

The beta is only for the multiplayer aspect and it features two distinct modes. The first is a mission mode that pits one team against another. The first team attacks while the other defends. The attacking team has objectives that it needs to complete and as each objective is finished they are given a bonus. Although the mode was fun to play, it can get pretty annoying when you play with the wrong group of people. Unfortunately for me this ended up being the case every time I tried this mode out. It also didn’t help that there weren’t that many people playing it.

I spent the majority of my time playing Team Assault which is the second mode offered. This mode is pretty straight forward; kill the other team before they kill you. Currently you can play one of three classes. You can choose between Rifleman, Sniper, or Special Ops. Each class has its own main weapon and as you rank up you can unlock new attachments or even unlock new weapons.

Although the beta doesn’t give us everything the game has to offer it does give us a good idea of what to expect. First of all, the game has a slow pace. I guess this is due to the fact that a big part of the game is staying hidden and just waiting for your opponents to walk by and shoot them. Secondly, as detailed as the game looks there are still parts that need work. Your weapons don’t look nearly as detailed as the city does. However,  the thing that bugged me the most was the death screen. Sometimes when you die nothing happens for a second or two and you’re just stuck standing there wondering why you can’t move and that’s when the death screen pops up.

As with any Beta – it’s safe to assume that many things are still being tweaked as we speak and I for one am looking forward to checking out the final product.
