This week marks the release of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 from Activision. Ultimate Alliance 2 is an action RPG with a top down perspective in the vein of Diablo, Baldur’s gate, and X-Men Legends. It is available on every platform known to man except the PC. Unfortunately, much like the ‘Civil War’ portrayed in the game, a good deal of fans are confused about where to shop as specific retailers are offering their own set of unlockable characters.
If you pre-ordered the game at GameStop you will get a code that allows you to play as Juggernaut. As far as I know this is the only way to unlock him, but I heard a rumor that he might be in some post-game DLC. Wal-Mart gives you a comic book based on the Civil War storyline with cover art done by artist Gabrielle Del’Otto that highlights the key moments in the game. Here is where things get tricky. If you pre-ordered at Best Buy then you will receive a code to unlock Thor and retailer GameCrazy has exclusive access to The Incredible Hulk. Both of these characters are playable on the normal retail disc but your code allows you to unlock them earlier in the game.
Pre-orders can be lucrative by offering special content to help sell a game before it comes out, but do retailers really need to make it so difficult? Are there some hardcore Hulk or Thor fans that can’t wait a few hours to play as their favorite characters?
Thanks For Settling All This Out, I Saw Ultimate Alliance 2 At E3 And They Demoed Hulk And Juggernaut. I Naturally Assumed That These Were Just Pre-Order Goodies For People Who Couldn’t Wait To Progress Through The Story, But Seing As Juggernaut Is An Exclusive DLC (For Now Anyways) To Gamestop. I Ask Myself, “WTF” Is The Point? Isn’t The Game Itself Good Enough With The Roster That They’ve Provided? Well, I Guess I’ll Hold Out Till I Can Ebay Myself A Copy of A Gamestop Version of Ultimate Alliance. Great Article!
To play as the Juggernaut you’ll need an actual receipt for the game you bought. I picked up my copy today and I got a card telling me to go to a gamestop website and enter info including the receipt number. I’m still waiting for them to e-mail me the code so I can unlock Juggs.
I just bought it today nice article but I’m still pissed cyclops is not on 360
He most likely will be DLC content. I’m not sure if you will have to pay for it though. They might release a pack of characters at a time for a certain sum.
Maybe you guys can help me out here. So how come they didn’t just plug every character they’ve designed from previous games in the series? Maybe span all the way back to X-Men Legends? Is it licensing issues or just financial strategy?
Both. I know the game director wanted to put The Punisher in the game, but couldn’t due to licensing. Also, the more characters they put in the game the less time they have to make the game good and polish those characters.
To be honest most of the powers and fusions in the game are carbon copies of each other just tailored to that specific hero/supervillain. Still a fun game though.
I am a Hulk and Thor fan..more Hulk though. I’ll get my game from Best Buy most probably.
it’s interesting that we’re talking so much about The Hulk – but meanwhile he wasn’t even on Earth during the entire Civil War storyline!
I hope that they bring Cable in with the DLC!!!!
does anyone have a copy of their pre order receipt that they could email me…..
[email protected]
My husband knew nothing about having to pre order the game just to get Juggernaut! He is really upset about this. As like the person above me does anyone have a copy of their pre order receipt that they would be kind enough to e-mail me so he can unlock Juggernaut? If we had known about this then we would have pre ordered it like alot of people did. Thank you and I hope that someone is kind enough to help us out.
