Disney’s Maleficent is a live-action re-imagination of the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale starring Angelina Jolie as Maleficent and Elle Fanning as Princess Aurora. Visually the film is a spectacular treat and the casting decision to use Angelia Jolie as Maleficent fits nicely into the fantasy world.
Maleficent is fun overall — there’s parts of the movie that move along too quickly and sometimes you wonder if the ‘Sleeping Beauty’ elements of the story should have just been cut-out in favor of the ‘fairy turned evil yet misunderstood’ tale. Maleficent has a nice mix of both lighthearted fantasy and brooding darkness to entertain audiences of all ages – there are no songs in the movie. Expect to see some interesting Maleficent cosplayers and Halloween costumes out and about in 2014 as everyone loves a good female villain!
