For those of us living in Los Angeles, we are lucky enough to have an event or convention just about every couple of weeks.  If you are a fan of comic books or the hobby of collecting then your options are wide open.  There’s a monthly comic book convention held at the Shrine Auditorium and Frank & Sons collectible show twice a week but this was a first for the Long Beach Comic Con.

As a spectator, I’d have to say that the LBCC’s first year was a blazing success.  On Saturday, the show floor was pretty full the entire day with booths and tables spread out across the entire convention area.  This con reached out specifically to the comic book market so 90% of the event was dedicated to the funny books.  Beyond comics, fans got a chance to demo the latest Nintendo games at their booth like the new Super Mario Bros Wii and Zelda Spirit Tracks on the DS.  Other attractions included an autograph area with familiar and new faces like Anthony Michael Hall and Chris Bruno from The Dead Zone, voice actors from The Peanuts cartoon and wrestling superstars from the past and present.  There was also a full-sized wrestling ring in which amateurs were giving a ‘demonstration’ throughout the day.  Actor Thomas Jane was also on hand to present a new movie he directed called ‘Dark Country‘ and the gang behind ‘Star Wars Uncut‘ presented scenes at their panel.  (Photos: BlankLogo Photography)
