LG Electronics and Capcom Entertainment hosted a Street Fighter IV tournament over the weekend in Los Angeles at the Belasco Theater with participating sponsors iam8bit and TwitchTV. The turn-out wasn’t extraordinarily insane, this was probably due to the short term notification of the event – however what was important were two things; big brands like LG Electronics getting involved in the fighting community and Southern California community forces Level Up and Cross Counter TV combining their efforts for the event.
Cross Counter TV grew in popularity in 2011 with Street Fighter IV players Gootecks and Mike Ross handling the majority of their entertainment brand while Level Up has become a staple of broadcasting live tournaments all over led by legendary Ryu player Alex Valle. The LG Cup had some of the top Southern California players in attendance – not all of them participating in the tournament. WOLFKRONE, a Mad Catz sponsored player, won both SSFIV:AE (on the Xbox 360) and SFIV HD (on the LG Nitro phone).

I like how the title and the article neglect to mention that the winner of both tournaments wasn’t from SoCal at all.
