Konami looked to beat the E3 2013 rush today as it held its pre-E3 event. The event showcased multiple current and upcoming Konami titles. The beginning of the event featured a look at some of Konami’s upcoming mobile games. Following was Konami’s big soccer title, PES. The video showcased their brand new engine and a new focus on user experience, player controls, and much more.
The biggest news out of the event was that “24” star Kiefer Sutherland will be playing Snake in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. It had been rumored for a good while that long time voice-actor David Hayter would not be returning, and the Konami event confirmed this. Hideo Kojima spilled some more details on the decision, noting that they needed someone that could convey the voice and facial expressions of a mid-40’s man. Shifting to the Fox Engine, Kojima discussed wanting to showcase characters more like live-action movies as opposed to video games and noting that the engine, as well as the actors, help make that possible.
Also discussed was the upcoming Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. The game picks up where the epilogue of the previous game ended and stars Dracula. The game engine, Mercury Engine, has been adapted to help the world grow organically (open-world) and allow for a free camera.
The conference ended with a video from the comedy group Mega 64. All-in-all a bit disappointing for an E3 event. No new Metal Gear trailer as rumored. The Castlevania stuff looked great, and PES looks solid but that’s about all we got.
