We had a chance to check out the newly minted Kojima Productions Studio Los Angeles headed up by Hideo Kojima of Metal Gear Solid fame. The building is modern and features plenty of design space for the upcoming team being assembled to work there as we speak!
During the visit Hideo Kojima, Head of Kojima Productions and Yoji Shinkawa, Art Director for the Metal Gear Solid series were on hand to showcase new gameplay for Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes and answer press questions. During the Q&A most questions revolved around Hideo’s remark on Twitter about wanting to make the characters ‘more erotic’ and some members of the press wanted to know what films helped inspire Kojima and Shinkawa in their design efforts.
Ultimately the biggest talking point of the press event was about having a Metal Gear Solid ‘open world’ which is new for the franchise. Hideo seemed resistant to respond as if there was a negative slant towards the phrase ‘open world’ and stressed that the ‘player choice’ is the number one driving force for the upcoming MGS games. Kojima also stated that ‘it’s up to the decision of the player to control the game’ and that will be the main different in the narrative for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid games.
