343 Industries is striving for excellence after taking the Halo helm. Showing a trim Master Chief this dev diary features a few of the folks at 343 discussing the character of John 117 in previous Halo games, or rather the lack there of. “Most of the exploration we’ve done of the Master Chief has been done through other media outside of the games… we wanted to put it squarely in the video game this time.” – Frank O’Connor, for those of us who haven’t delved into the larger Halo mythos O’Connor’s words should bring a sense of excitement and anticipation at the thought of Halo 4 bringing something new to the character.

A step forward in character development is paired with a step backward in weaponry. Few video game weapons are as beloved as Halo’s Battle Rifle, and in Halo 4… it’s back! That’s right, three round burst precision glory makes its return. New campaign, the return of the BR, and a multiplayer mode built from the ground up rather than pulling locations used in the campaign. Halo 4 is shaping up to be awesome. Oh, by the way, did you see that mech?!
