Had a chance to check out the newly announced Guitar Hero Live at a private demo in Los Angeles.  The game will be released in Fall 2015 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Nintendo WiiU (and mobile) and is developed by FreeStyleGames who previously helped create the DJ Hero franchise for Activision.

So what’s new for Guitar Hero Live? Two things that stand out are the new button configuration which are two rows of three buttons on top of each other and the point of view of the game showing the crowds and band members.  As a long time Guitar Hero and Rock Band expert it was not easy making the jump into the new buttons arrangement – something the developers told me would happen over time.  Also the live action crowd responses and band are a nice touch but are gonna be hard to focus on while concentrating on the notes themselves.

Guitar Hero Live will offer a library of songs playable through what they’re calling ‘GHTV’ which is their interface for accessing songs.  Activision will feature an impressive array of musical talent in the game from artists like The Black Keys, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Gary Clark, Jr., Green Day, Ed Sheeran, The War on Drugs, The Killers, Skrillex, The Rolling Stones, The Lumineers, Carrie Underwood, Pierce the Veil and Blitz Kids.
