Guilty Gear hasn’t seen a new release in a fairly long time, with rabid fans being forced to feed on other titles like Blazblue while they waited. Now with a port of the last game in the series to a more recent console there’s hope.
As a fighter, GG is a fairly hard to pick up series, though it’s that same difficulty that makes it fun. All of the characters are unique and brimming with personality, so you’re bound to find one who fits your play style. It’s a sight to behold when 8 foot tall doctor’s with a bag on his head fights a robot or a muscular midget carrying a giant sword. Story mode is particularly engaging, complete with multiple endings for most of the cast. There are other modes such as Survival and a score attack called M.O.M, but they feel fairly standard in comparison.
This would be the perfect package if the online component wasn’t so horrific. Input delays are noticeable on a grand scale, with some combos impossible to execute. While the promise of online was fantastic, there’s no point in having it if it’s nigh unplayable.
While online multiplayer was a misfire, there’s still plenty of reason to play Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus, if only to check out the diverse cast.
