Final Fantasy XI Fan Festival 2008 went down over the weekend at the Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood, California. Rob Welkner (COIN-OP.TV) along with Jessica and Mandie from Girls Got Game checked out the show on Saturday. This gathering of FF XI fans is not about showing off and large scale production but more about micro-managing your time in a step-by-step exploration of the Fan Festival. When something big is going down like the Costume Contest then all the other rooms are closed off – shoving all the traffic into the main room to witness the activities.
More highlights included a Final Fantasy XI developers panel with Hiromichi Tanaka (Producer), which discussed plans to expand the universe in great detail. The Art Contest gave aspiring artists a chance to show off their tribute paintings, which were voted on by attendees. The weekend was capped off with a special performance by Kumi Tanioka (Star Onions member and a composer for Final Fantasy XI) and Award Ceremony.

How hard was it to get tickets for this? I heard they sold out pretty fastaru and I’d really like to go this year.
we had press passes – I believe they have a limited number and they sell rather quickly – good luck!
