Last year, Capcom announced an expansion for their sleeper hit: Dragon’s Dogma. Entitled Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, this goes beyond what you’d normally expect from a simple “expansion.”  It’s one of the things I love about how Capcom handles this franchise; they aren’t afraid to try something a little different.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen will deliver on all the pieces you would expect: a new third tier of skills to evolve and utilize, new augments for your character and your pawn, more customization, new equipment and a more intuitive menu system.  All these check-marks for the box’s back are great, but what is most interesting to me is Dark Arisen incorporates game saves from the original Dragon’s Dogma.

Dark Arisen will upgrade your current game save so that you can continue your journey in Dragon’s Dogma from wherever you are.  The Dark Arisen disc will contain the entirety of the original game, along with the expansion quests on Bitterblack Isle.  Not only that, but you’ll also receive 100,000 Rift Crystals, unlimited Ferrystones and the Gransys Armour Pack.  That’s pretty good incentive to pick up this expansion.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is releasing as a physical copy on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and as a digital download from the PlayStation Network in North America on April 23rd for $39.99.
