2016 should go down in history as a Marvel one-two punch K.O. as both Captain America Civil War and Doctor Strange turned out to be excellent and entertaining movies. Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange, Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mordo, Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer and Mads Mikkelsen as Kaecilius the villain.
The Dr. Strange comic book character was created by Steve Ditko in 1963 appearing in Strange Tales issue #110. Since then he has appeared in numerous comic books in his own series and as part of The Defenders. For the most part the Doctor Strange movie follows his origin closely with one minor change regarding the Eye of Agamotto.
Doctor Strange marketing and trailers didn’t do well to sell the movie so ticket sales will mostly rely on word of mouth and post-screening buzz as we praised the movie and encourage people to see it. It’s clear Cumberbatch was born to play the role of Doctor Strange who is both arrogant and curious with enough smarts to know when to speak and when to listen. We are treated to a new origin story and a new hero added to the ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’ all wrapped into a new mythical and magical side of this pre-established world with over 14 films in the catalog.
