I was afraid of the dark as a kid. When nighttime rolled around, everything covered in darkness got twisted and deformed. Now imagine this was the principle with which your world was based on. This is what it’s like to live in Closure, a new puzzle game released on Steam. You play a small eight-legged demon who watches over three people as they struggle through various locales, always pervaded by a looming sense of darkness.
From the moment I started Closure, I felt a sense of amazing wonder. The aforementioned mechanic creates a feeling of walking through a labyrinth of corridors, armed with only a torch and a sense of adventure. Many of the puzzles have unique solutions that will have you thinking out of the box in order to move around. Atmosphere is the name of the game, with everything in the game geared toward making you feel alone in the dark.
The main draw of this game is also its biggest fault. Since you always need light, moving from one light to another requires you hold a small orb, which wouldn’t be a problem if your character could multitask. The worst puzzles weren’t the ones that jarred my mind, but the ones where I’d have to constantly go back and forth to transport myself, a key, and the orb from one end of the room to the other. If I had spent anymore time with the light orb, I would’ve named it Wilson. Using the light orbs to illuminate my path felt like playing as baby Mario in Yoshi’s Island. So like a needy ex, I pressed on with my small pal in tow.
Even with one glaring problem, Closure is a well made game despite having only a three person team. This is a great game for those tired of puzzles with easy-to-find solutions. Although it starts out easy, it ramps up the difficulty providing more than enough challenge to tickle your brain. If you’re on the fence about buying this game, take the leap of faith and give yourself some closure.
Closure is currently on PSN and Steam for $9.99
