2018 expects to be another huge year for video games selling on all three of the major platforms like the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Something that always makes it more interesting in the ‘debate’ for the best console of the year is always what exclusive titles come to which system.
Sony’s PlayStation and Nintendo’s Switch have had the advantage in 2017 when it came to exclusives as it seems like Microsoft’s Xbox One focused their energy on technology rather than releasing high profile video games. Here’s a quick breakdown of three highly anticipated video games we think are coming out in 2018 exclusive to each of the top three consoles:
Sony PlayStation 4 2018 Exclusives:
Marvel’s Spider-Man which is being developed by Insomniac Games and looks absolutely stunning. The upcoming Spider-Man video game features the fan-favorite superhero in a stand-alone universe and story. Most details have been hush-hush about this game but we expect it to be a huge seller when it comes out.
Days Gone is an upcoming survival horror game which looks like a crossover between The Walking Dead TV show and the 28 Days Later movie. The development team has been stressing how many zombies will be active in the game so we’re anxious to see the power of the PlayStation 4 in action.
Detroit Become Human was shown off in great detail at the most recent Sony PlayStation Experience 2017 and features open-ended storytelling from developers Quantic Dream. The game is set in the future and features noir elements and an abundance of artificial lifeforms.
Microsoft Xbox One 2018 Exclusives:
Crackdown 3 was expected to release in 2017 but was pushed into 2018. Crackdown 3 will see super-powered human beings duking it out in a futuristic city full of plenty of destructible buildings.
Sea of Thieves is a pirate-themed multiplayer video game that takes advantage of online play and co-operation between teammates. Each person in Sea of Thieves will be responsible for tasking things like steering, hoisting sails, navigation, firing cannons and more.
State of Decay 2 is Microsoft’s answer to Days Gone as far as zombies but instead of focusing on single-player this game is based on multiplayer zombie survival. State of Decay 2 will probably feel like an updated version of Left For Dead with each character having their own strengths and weaknesses.
Nintendo Switch 2018 Exclusives:
Kirby Star Allies is developed by HAL Laboratories with a release date of March 16, 2018. This time around the new Kirby game will offer gameplay with you and 3 of your friends to help take down enemies as a group and navigate through platforming levels.
Project Octopath Traveler is an upcoming role-playing video game developed by Square Enix. This game is stylized and harkens back to the 16-bit era of video gaming but don’t take it lightly as the demo released on the Nintendo Switch months ago showed a very robust combat system.
Yoshi on the Nintendo Switch (working title) will definitely help sell games on this platform as fans of the Mario Bros universe have always had a soft spot for this spin-off character. One of the gimmicks for the upcoming Yoshi game will be a change in viewpoint and will also support two-player local co-op gameplay.
2017 saw the release of a new console in the Nintendo Switch and a new Microsoft system released in the Xbox One X so that helped drain money away from gamers’ pockets but in 2018 all bets are off as all of the ‘big three’ consoles are out and this year and now it will just be about buying and playing new games. There are a ton of games anticipated to rank above 5 million units in 2018 like Spider-Man for the PlayStation 4, Kirby Star Allies on the Nintendo Switch and potentially Crackdown 5 on the Xbox One and that doesn’t even include all the un-announced games yet to come!
