TURBO is a new feature length film by Dreamworks Animation.  We had a chance to check out an early preview of the movie with a general audience in attendance.  Turbo is about a garden snail who is teased by his community, loves racing and is accidentally given a speed boost when he intakes a bunch of NOS from a car.  The movie stars Ryan Reynolds (as Turbo) who downplays the voice acting this time around and is mostly upstaged by Samuel L. Jackson who plays Whiplash one of the other racing snails.

Overall the movie has enough life and fun to it to be entertaining but Turbo didn’t bring any huge laugh-out-loud moments or memorial scenes that left us asking for more.  Themes like reaching for your goals and not quitting are plastered all over the movie and are very much ‘on the nose’ – we love our stories to be a bit more subtle.  Animation was top notch and the cast of snails did a great job of mixing up the flavor of the film.

Turbo will also see a video game adaptation called Turbo Super Stunt Squad from D3Publisher which will coincide will the film’s release and be available on the Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS/3DS, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
