E3 2011 – Sony Press Conference Highlights from COIN-OP TV:

Sony had us put on our 3D glasses on and off the entire night — what we saw in 3D thrilled….. what was not in 3D was kinda dull (that’s mostly because it was the PS Vita stuff).

Sony kicked things off with Uncharted 3 – which will be on everyone’s top 5 lists at the end of the year.  The ‘kids on the street’ say that the 3D in Uncharted 3 looks better then any other movie or video game.  The team at Naughty Dog has admitted that it was built from the ground up with 3D in mind.  We saw a live-demo of a level in which the hero Drake overcomes unbeatable odds — that was a given ‘eh?

Next up was Resistance 3 with a live-demo on stage.  We saw a more interesting level on this game last month at a Sony Community event (jump to article).  Unfortunately this game still feels on the ‘old fashion first person shooter’ side especially when you compare it side-by-side recent winners like Crysis 2.

Kobe Bryant from the Los Angeles Lakers helped showcase NBA2K12 and tried to convince everyone in the audience that the PS Move controller would help enhance gameplay………  Much like how the Lakers were meant to go all the way this year?

Sly Cooper 4 was confirmed with a trailer that contained all the fun of the previous games which were a hit back in the PlayStation 2 days.  We look forward to seeing more from this game and keeping the franchise alive — maybe even a movie tie-in somewhere down the road?

Next up was Dust 514 which will attempt to merge PC shooters with the console world.  The game showcased metallic and future looking graphics with fast paced action and was very stylized!

BioShock Infinite gave the biggest ‘show chills’ of the night but more time was spent with developer Ken Lavine (from Irrational Games) explaining that he now ‘supports’ the PlayStation Move controller and will incorporate it into the game somehow or at least in the future.  If PS Move controllers fly off the shelves for BioShock Inifite then it’ll be the biggest surprise.

The second half of the Sony Press Conference showed off a handful of new PlayStation Move titles and the NGP was officially announced as the PS Vita.  Sony’s President Jack Tretton also made a public apology for the breach of the Sony PlayStation Network over the last month and a half.
