Disney Infinity 2.0 Marvel Super Heroes will launch later this year for multiple platforms as a follow up or semi-sequel to the original Disney Infinity sensation.  For those not following the story (more info here)– the 2.0 version is a brand new game with new adventures and play sets mostly revolving around Marvel comic book heroes like The Avengers and Spider-Man.

During the E3 Expo 2014 – Disney Infinity announced that in addition to an Avengers play set there will also be a Spider-Man play set – most likely around the same release window.  Something new to the game is a skill-tree which will allow players to ‘level up’ their characters and a handful of characters will have the ability to crossover into different play sets like Iron Man and Nova.  We’re still perplexed as to why not all Marvel characters can crossover into every play set and why even make a new toy/figure that doesn’t have a play set is beyond us.  But ultimately from what we’re seeing early on Disney Infinity 2.0 looks like a major improvement especially in the Toy Box mode which will allow any toy/figure to function.

We also got a short glimpse of Maleficent and Merida who are still a work in progress but technically the first announced ‘non-Marvel’ original Disney characters we’ll see make an appearance in the game but only playable in Toy Box mode.  Most die-hard Disney and Marvel fans are eagerly awaiting an announcement that will include both Deadpool and Stitch into the mix — we may have to keep holding our breath though!
