Microsoft Press Conference Recap for Xbox ONE

Microsoft Press Conference revealed much about their upcoming system like the official name ‘Xbox One‘ and that it would be released later this year in 2013.  An extensive time (the first 30 minutes) was spent showing off the new interface, tech specs, system design and controller.  The machine looks very robust and ‘strong’ like a tank – the new controller looks very similar to the old one but will have a new updated design — hopefully fixing any d-pad issues we’ve had over the years. Microsoft presenters used buzzwords like ‘intelligent tv’ when talking about the new interface – trying

The next Call of Duty game will be called ‘Ghosts‘ and thus far very little is known but we do have a teaser trailer to start building the hype leading up to the games’ release later this year on the next generation of consoles to be released.  Call of Duty Ghosts also marks a return to  form from what’s left of the Infinity Ward development team as Activision moves forward with their franchise brand. The Broken Economics of Used Games

Much has been said about used game sales. Typically the conversation is about how the purchase of used games hurts those who make games by cutting them out of the money loop thus hurting the medium as a whole. With less money coming in from game sales game companies have less money to put into their next project creating an endless cycle of poorer and poorer quality titles. Let’s be perfectly clear: this will not be one of those typical conversations. I would rather look at the personal economics of used games. We aren’t going to be looking at the

ACTIVATE Now Available on Skylanders iOS Games

Activision announced their ‘Activiate’ feature months ago which would allow for people to ‘become friends’ and play with one-another on their mobile games like Skylanders Cloud Patrol and Skylanders Lost Islands. This week their iOS game Skylanders Lost Islands received an update which now features ‘Activate’ — what does this mean? It means that Skylanders fans around the world can now link up and play games together on their iOS devices — a first for this high-selling franchise.

The Walking Dead Survival Instinct – Preview

It looks like Terminal Reality turned the brightness slider way down since last time we saw footage of the upcoming The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct. While this new trailer looks better than the last, it does nothing to answer the questions we have about the game. Questions like: What kind of game are we looking at? The title gives a hint but the trailer has me scratching my head. Is it a game of survival, action, or perhaps a FPS RTS RPG with both deep stat management and extensive base building options? Of course we’re also left with a big question about

Skylanders SWAP Force – Preview

It’s official the next Skylanders game will be called Skylanders SWAP Force developed by Vicarious Visions the team behind the last two Nintendo 3DS Skylanders games and the Skylanders iOS games.  Skylanders Swap Force will be a brand new game adventure taking place in the Skylanders universe on an island called Cloudbreak.  There will be 16 new ‘Swap’ figures that allow players to take the toys apart and mix and match the top and bottom halves to form new characters and powers.  Swap Force will also ship with 16 completely new (Series 3 figures) and 16 ‘fan favorite’ figures returning

Baseball Stars Celebrate Call of Duty Black Ops 2 Revolution DLC Maps Release

We had a chance to stop by Activision’s Treyarch studio this week to celebrate the release of the Call of Duty Black Ops 2 Revolution DLC Maps release with Matt Cain from the San Francisco Giants and Evan Longoria of the Tampa Bay Rays.  Both Baseball stars were on hand to check out the latest COD Maps and compete in a friendly ‘Grudge Match’ at the Treyarch headquarters along with select media and developers. The new Call of Duty Black Ops 2 Revolution DLC Maps are Downhill (a ski lodge), Mirage (a fancy desert villa), Hydro (a water-filled level dam)

Splinter Cell: Blacklist Collector’s Edition – Preview

It seems games this generation just keep trying to one-up each other with outrageous special editions. The movement seems to have started with the Halo 3 special edition that came with a replica Master Chief helmet and has grown each year with Activision putting out bigger and bigger special editions of Call of Duty coming with things like night vision goggles and R/C cars. There is also a downside to these editions as proven by Dead Silver and Techland’s recent announcement of the Dead Island Riptide special edition that came with a woman’s severed torso. Not exactly the smartest promotion

The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct dated – trailer

The latest offering from milking of the Walking Dead universe now has a release date. Hot on the heels of a gameplay trailer (below) Activision has announced that The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct will be in stores on March 26. Based on and set before the AMC television show, Activision’s first-person-shooter centers around lovable miscreant brothers Merle and Daryl Dixon as they make their way to Atlanta. Yeesh. After a quick double check of the facts; yes the game in this trailer is in fact the game Activision claims will be out in March. I wonder if there’s a bookie
