COIN-OP TV East Coast Meet-Up

Posted on June 30th, 2009 in News & Events by cotv

I went back to New York City (my hometown) for the big High School Reunion and took time to schedule an East Coast meet-up with fans of COIN-OP TV LIVE.  We met at a place called Barcade in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  We had about 10 people show up to hang out, drink beers and play arcade games.  Barcade is unique in that it has about 20 working original arcade games along with a full bar for drinks.  While hanging out we got to witness some awesome gameplay from guys who were great at Ms. Pac-Man and Donkey Kong both getting to their respective ‘kill screens’.  Thanks to those who showed up to hang out – Dos714, Enyork, RL Wolfen, VideoMastersTV, Alphasidn224, Robin, Chris, Natalia and Sam!

Erotica LA 2009 – Porn stars and fans united

Posted on June 16th, 2009 in News & Events by admin

Erotica LA is an annual event in Los Angeles where fans of the adult industry are given a chance to meet and greet their favorite performers.  General admission is $35, which grants fans a chance to browse the exhibit floor and check out booths with porn stars signing autographs.  Erotica LA, like most events this year, was slimmed down due to economic woes.   Some of the usual suspects were present and if this was your first time then you might have been impressed.  The biggest disappointment with this year’s Erotica LA was that almost every girl present tried milking us for money and even wanted $5 to take a photograph.  Suffice to say – the lovely ladies in the photographs with me below did not charge!  Last year’s Erotica LA was more enticing but this show will always play second fiddle to the more polished and fun AVN show in Las Vegas.  (Photos: BlankLogo Photography)

Street Fighter IV spoof from Black Nerd Comedy

Posted on June 5th, 2009 in Video (Other) by admin

Hannah Montana can do it and so can Black Nerd Comedy!  Yes, folks that right – put on your dancing shoes because you are about to dance and clap along to Andre Meadow’s latest video spoof called Street Fighter IV  – Hoedown Throwdown.  We’ve seen Black Nerdy Comedy spoofs before in ‘Buy Mii a Wii’ and ‘Konami Code’ but this one trumps those with a large cast, special effects and a song that’ll make you want as a ring-tone.  Bravo to Andre and his all-star team of dancers including Robert Welkner and Hailey Bright of COIN-OP TV, Beau and Leo (radnerd.com), Flitz (Nerdiest-Kids.com), Jessica (GameGirl.com), Matt, Aubrey, Tedakin, Ian and Brian (theStream.TV).  Check out the spoof below and if you wanna see the original clip just click here!

And as a bonus – check out this ‘video response‘ clip with

E3 Expo reactions Day 3 (Thursday)

Posted on June 5th, 2009 in E3 EXPO, News & Events by admin

Last day of the show means everyone is exhausted and tired.  It becomes a task just to stay focused and get the job done but we had another full day on the show floor.  We got a ‘behind the closed door’ look at Guitar Hero 5, DJ Hero, Modern Warfare 2 and interviewed people on those teams and I finally got some hands-on time with Guitar Hero: Van Halen which looks promising.

By now, all the big show announcements had already passed.  I usually look at Thursday as the ‘clean up’ day in which I re-visit booths that I skipped along the way.  One game that really looks nice was Global Agenda from Hi-Rez Studios in Atlanta.  This action/third person shooter runs on the Unreal engine for PC gamers and looks smooth and fun.  We played another Rock Band Beatles song today and as much as I want to love this game – am disappointed so far.  Another ’sleeper’ game I got to check out was from Warner Bros called ‘Where The Wild Things Are’.  This game ties into the new film yet is a stand alone story and not an adaptation from the movie.  The characters and game play elements really look charming.

Props to Aubrey, Ian, Todd and Kevin for repping COIN-OP TV by wearing their t-shirts around the show this week!  Check out this video from G4tv with Aubrey sporting his COIN-OP TV shirt on camera – http://e3.g4tv.com/videos/38834/Scion-E3-Confessions/

E3 Expo reactions Day 2 (Wednesday)

Posted on June 4th, 2009 in E3 EXPO, News & Events by admin

We had a full day of shooting and interviews to tackle today and for the most part things went smooth.  Hailey and I started off at the Sega booth where we interviewed developers from the upcoming games Alpha Protocol and Aliens Vs Predator.  After that we headed over to the West Hall where we got to see the gigantic and stunning Activision booth.  Only EA (their closest rival) came close to the size of the screens and displays at the booth.  Missing were the sexy booth babes and swag but bravo for no long lines and lots of things to see and play!

We did an interview with one of the producers of the Rock Band Beatles game which looks fantastic.  We got to play a couple of songs but to my surprise I was not entirely impressed.  Outside of the new colorful graphics and additional singing tracks – the game appears to just be a glorified expansion of Rock Band 2 (which is already a fun game).  Going back one more day to play more songs and see if I change my tune (get it?).

Hailey got some interviews with Sony developers on games like God of War 3 and Uncharted 2.  Both games look insanely stunning and awesome.  You really cannot take in how nice these games look and play from seeing trailers and teasers on the Internet.  We wrapped up the day shooting interviews with a handful of the Ultimate Gamer Champions (sci-fi network) like Prodigy X, Swoozie and potential candidate for season two Justin Wong.  We had very little down time as the day was full of work but after the show wrapped we headed to dinner with the guys from Activision (who are awesome) and then over to the Windows party.  Mad props to Nelson and Chris for throwing one of the cooler and hip parties of E3!

As of now I would say that these five games will be on everyone’s wish list and potentials for ‘Game of the Year’ – God of War 3, Uncharted 2, Modern Warfare 2, DJ Hero and Splinter Cell: Conviction.

E3 Expo reactions Day 1 (Tuesday)

Posted on June 3rd, 2009 in E3 EXPO, News & Events by admin

Nintendo and Sony had their big press conferences today.  Nintendo announced Mario and Metroid games for the Wii (yawn) and Sony impressed with an awesome display of some of their fine upcoming releases like God of War 3 and even talked about a new motion sensor thing.  I guess 2009 will be known as the year of the motion sensor.  Anyway onto the fun stuff which is the E3 Expo show floor!

Hailey and I spent a good amount of the day around with the crowds at the G4tv booth where Steve Wiebe was attempting to reclaim his Donkey Kong world recorded on a live nationally televised feed.  Steve was perched on a stool in front of an authentic Donkey Kong arcade machine and a constant stream of fans and on-lookers cheering him on.  Twin Galaxies founder Walter Day was also present along with others in the arcade/world champion holders group.  Steve was given three attempts (which each take over 2 hours to complete) to go for a new world record yet each came up short meaning that Billy Mitchell remains the Donkey Kong world record holder.  Steve did make it to the ‘kill screen’ which in itself is a treat to watch.

We spent all of our time in the ‘South Hall’ and ran into some of the guys from the Ultimate Gamer Champion show (sci-fi network) who were all super nice and friendly.  The show floor was not as insanely crowded as expected and many game stations were open for demos.  Swag and booth babes were still at an all-time low but there was plenty of other cool things to check out!

Once E3 wrapped – Hailey, The DCD and myself headed off to the after parties which started with the GirlGamer.com party at the Congo Room where our friends 8-Bit Weapon performed and then ended at Saddleranch where Bethesda held their annual party.  We ran into many new friends and fans of the show – look forward to tomorrow when we take the video camera with us!
