The Streamys Awards 2009 Show Wrap-Up

Posted on March 31st, 2009 in News & Events by admin

The Streamy Awards 2009 are past us but we’ll always have the cool photos to remember for the rest of time!  This was a first time award show and was not free of bumps along the way.  The red carpet was a bit crazy with just about everyone there roaming freely through it and making it hard to get isolated pictures of the Internet celebrities.  The Award show itself was fun and full of surprises.  The stage and lighting were Hollywood and each presenter had a script and video montage ready for the nominated shows.

TheStream.TV network was represented in the News & Politics category for Monkey News Source!  We also had friends like Alex Albrecht from Diggnation, Felicia & Sandeep from The Guild and Taryn Southern nominated in multiple categories.  Big names like Neil Patrick Harris and Joss Whedon took home awards for Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog while Felicia Day gave a inspiring acceptance speech about how she bucked the Hollywood system by creating her own online show The Guild.  (Additional photos byJonathan Dingman and Wm. Marc Salsberry)

Game Developers Conference 2009

Posted on March 27th, 2009 in News & Events by admin

The Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2009 has come and gone and we’ve got the cool party pictures below to prove it!  Many of the developers we met talked about the return of casual gaming to the mainstream.  Proof of this is a look at the profits from games like WiiFit, iPhone games and other ‘pick up and play’ games that are meant for people of all shapes and sizes.  One of the larger booths at the show was the OnLive booth which is a platform that streams popular video games from a server for you to play on your TV, Mac or PC (similar to the GameTap subscription based platform).

The atmosphere at GDC is casual and friendly – we bumped into people like Tommy Tallarico (Video Games Live), Robert Bowling (Infinity Ward), Cliffy Bleszinski (Gears of War), David Crane (Pitfall/Activision creator), John Romero (Doom/Id Software) and many more!  The most talked about key-note was from Nintendo (as expected) in which they laid our their plans for upcoming games and more on the new DSi.  We got a first hand look at some upcoming Activision titles like Wolfenstein, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Ultimate Alliance 2 which all looked promising! Thanks to EA Battlefield, Astro Gaming and Rock Band for throwing cool parties during GDC!
