Craig from ScrewAttack.com on COIN-OP TV

Posted on September 27th, 2008 in COIN-OP TV LIVE archive by blanklogo

Craig of ScrewAttack.com stopped by theStream.tv’s studios for an impromptu Friday night COIN-OP TV LIVE.  The show was a well rounded set of questions from both new fans and the dedicated followers of ScrewAttack known as G1s. If you watched the previous episode with Craig from Coin-Op TV Live Episode 127, you might agree that Brian should start charging Craig rent for his Batman costume.

Mr. and Mrs. Pac-Man

Posted on September 23rd, 2008 in News & Events by Rob F

Dear friends of mine Heather and Paul Truitt recently got married, and I was on hand to witness their union.  For the most part, they had a lovely traditional ceremony.  But being the hardcore gamers that they are decided against wedding rings, and instead opted for Pac-Man themed tattoos (pictured)!  Each newlywed has their own custom Pac-character with half of a pixilated heart that becomes whole when their arms are joined.  A true sign of the times, I think!

You can meet the happy couple at their convention, Too Many Games (www. TooManyGames.com)
in Reading, PA on October 18th.  Congratulations guys!

COIN-OP TV DVD mentioned on G4tv!

Posted on September 16th, 2008 in News & Events by cotv

COIN-OP TV DVD Volume 1 seen on G4tv this week!  Chris Gore, who hosts the weekly ‘DVD Tuesdays‘ segments on G4tv, gave a brief mention of the DVD during his ’speed round’ with host Olivia Munn.   Chris described the DVD as a ‘web show about video games for geeks like myself’ when he held it up on camera.  Olivia quickly recognized some people on the cover and referenced ‘The King of Kong’ movie as well.  Chris Gore was a recent guest on COIN-OP TV LIVE and ‘won’ the DVD as part of a ‘movie quote trivia’ segment.

Greatest American Hero 25th Anniversary Reunion

img_1399.jpgCOIN-OP TV on location at ‘The Greatest American Hero‘ 25th Anniversary Reunion at the Screen Actors Guild – Sunday, September 7th 2008.

With a new comic on the way from Catastrophic Comics and a possible movie in the works, according to creator, producer and writer, Stephen J. Cannell, the classic 80s superhero TV series is back in a big way!  The news was part of a 25th Anniversary cast reunion.  The entire cast – William Katt, Robert Culp, Connie Sellecca and Michael Pare were joined by Stephen J., composer Mike Post, stuntman Dennis “Danger” Madalone and some of the original crew members.

The evening was a funny and memorable look back at an old favorite.  Clips from the show, which was just recently released on DVD in its entirety were shown, eliciting cheers and big laughs from an enthusiastic audience.  The cast answered questions presented by moderator John Tesh.  Questions ranged from favorite episode to minutiae involving individual episodes. Unfortunately discussion of the upcoming movie, animated series and comic were at a minimum, leaving the direction of the series a mystery!

Xbox 360 Sales Double Following Price Drop

Posted on September 12th, 2008 in News & Events by cotv

While the soon to be released August NPD video game sales data will of course not reflect any impact from the recent Xbox 360 price cut, Microsoft has made it clear that the price reduction across its SKU lineup is already boosting business.

The company told Bloomberg that “retailers reported a 100 percent increase in sales for all models compared with the previous weekend.” Moreover, certain models were selling at six times the previous weekend’s rate. How each SKU was faring at its new price was not disclosed, nor did Microsoft provide an actual sales figure overall.

While the Xbox 360 has been outsold in the U.S. by Sony’s PS3 in recent months, we’d guess that the price reduction will give the 360 the edge in September and possibly throughout the holiday. “I think the sub-$200 Xbox 360 arcade is extremely good for holiday. Historically, whenever you get a system under $200 it appeals to a much wider demographic,” GameStop CEO Dan DeMatteo commented to GameDaily BIZ in a recent interview.

It’ll be interesting to see what impact the $199 Xbox 360 really has in the coming months, especially considering that it’s $50 cheaper than the Wii.
