It seems a strange way of concluding a story that ended on a cliffhanger: Vegas 2 is at the same time a prequel, a finale and synchronous to the first Vegas. But it’s trying it anyway, substituting Vegas’s player character, Logan Keller, for a customizable avatar called Bishop.
Ubisoft Montreal’s team claims the game is a chance to implement ‘cool ideas’ that didn’t get into the original and to ‘close the story with a bang’, but much as this wishlist implies added drama, Vegas 2 will actually be set less among the neon gaming halls of the city than its seamy backstreets and industrial units. Oh, and also, following Vegas’s brief visit to Mexico at its outset, a couple of so-far-undisclosed locations outside of the US.

Empire Interactive announced that it will be bringing Myst to the DS. The game has been recreated for the portable system, with a new soundtrack, re-mastered video and the all-new Rime Age. The two screens will also be used to great effectiveness, with the upper screen used to provide information and view magnified images, while the bottom screen is used to access mini-tools and navigate throughout the worlds of Myst.
“As one of the strongest video game franchises in history, with more than 12 million games sold, we felt it was only natural to partner with Hoplite Research and Cyan Worlds to bring Myst to an innovative system like the DS,” said Karim Farghaly, vice president of sales, Empire Interactive. “The DS addition to the Myst game library allows players to take advantage of the new features created exclusively for the DS, while still maintaining the integrity of this classic game, creating a refreshed, on-the-go adventure experience for players of all ages.”

Third-party videogame accessory provider Mad Catz has inked a deal with Rock Band publisher MTV Networks to provide peripherals for the game. The multi-year licensing agreement will bring Mad Catz’ Rock Band controllers to the market sometime in the first half of 2008. The firm now has the rights to manufacture, market and sell Rock Band peripherals and other Rock Band-related products.
Mad Catz’ instrument controllers will be produced for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PS2. The peripheral maker said that guitars would come in wired and wireless varieties.
In Rock Band, which is distributed by Electronic Arts, four players can play together simultaneously using two guitar controllers (bass/lead guitar), a drum kit and a microphone. Mad Catz will be releasing versions of all Rock Band peripherals.
MTV Networks and its development studio Harmonix have ran into snags with Rock Band controllers since the game’s US release in November 2007. Faulty strum bars plagued the guitars, and tight supply has prevented the release of individual instruments outside of the $170 bundle (or $160 for PS2).
“The addition of the Rock Band license is consistent with Mad Catz’ stated goal to align ourselves with the most attractive brands and highly-anticipated software releases while seeking additional accessory opportunities to further diversify and grow our revenue base,” said Mad Catz CEO Darren Richardson in a statement.
